CONTEST FOR A CAUSE - Drunk Driving Prevention

The objective of the PinMart Contest for a Cause is to recognize and reward one student who has made an extraordinary impact and contribution to raising awareness of the risks and consequences of drunk driving and positively works to prevent future accidents related to driving under the influence.

PinMart will award one contest prize in the amount of $1,000.00.

Thank you for your interest in the PinMart's Contest for a Cause. Please read over all the information below and carefully submit your application. If any information is missing, your application will not be considered.

Eligibility: PinMart’s Contest for a Cause (the “Contest”) is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, who are at least 16 years or older, who are currently enrolled and in good standing (GPA of 2.5 or higher) at a US post-secondary educational program or institution (including universities, community colleges, or vocational schools) or will be enrolled in January 2020. Employees, directors, officers, and agents of PinMart, Inc. (“Sponsor”), its affiliates, advertising, promotion, and judging agencies and all other service agencies involved with the Contest and members of the immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and household of each such employee (whether or not related) are not eligible to enter or be a winner.

ENTRANTS WHO ARE UNDER THE AGE OF MAJORITY IN THEIR JURISDICTION OF RESIDENCE MUST OBTAIN CONSENT OF THEIR PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN TO ENTER.

The winner will be awarded $1,000 in the form of a check (made out to the winner). The winner may use the award at their own discretion toward their tuition and/or other expenses related to higher education. 

This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.

Contest Entry Period: The entry period begins on November 15, 2019 at 12:00:00 a.m. CST and ends January 31, 2020 at 11:59:59 p.m. CST.  All entries must be received before the end time/date to be valid. All entries become the exclusive property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.

How to Enter: Entrants are to write an essay describing how they have made an extraordinary impact on drunk driving prevention.  Then, during the entry period, fill out the registration form and submit it with all the other required information. If any information is incomplete the submission will not be eligible or considered. Limit one entry per entrant.

Submission Requirements:

  • An essay of 700-1500 words describing entrant’s impact on a specific awareness cause.
  • Most recent transcripts (unofficial transcripts are permitted, but unofficial “grade reports” are not.
  • Two letters of recommendation. Including contact information.
    • One from someone familiar with your awareness cause involvement.
    • One from someone at your academic institution.

Submission Criteria

 All submissions will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • GPA 2.5 or higher, as supported by transcripts.
  • Level of involvement with an awareness cause.
  • Content of essay, including creativity and clarity of details. Content must be the original work of the entrant. Within the essay entrant should answer the following:  why has entrant become involved in raising awareness to ways driving under the influence can be prevented, what has entrant done to promote the cause, the level of involvement the entrant has with the cause.
  • Letters of recommendation.

Selection of Contest Winner:  On or about February 28, 2020 one entrant will be chosen as the winner of the PinMart Contest for a Cause. Shortly thereafter the winner will be notified by their provided email.

BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, ENTRANT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT SHOULD ENTRANT BE CHOSEN AS THE CONTEST WINNER, ENTRANT AGREES, THAT AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE SPONSOR, ENTRANT MAY BE FEATURED ON THE SPONSOR’S WEBSITE, SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS, SELECT WEB PAGES AND ANY OTHER SPONSOR MEDIA. SPONSOR WILL ASK FOR A PHOTO OF WINNER FOR THIS PURPOSE.

THE PRIZE:  The winner will receive a One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) award, to be used at their discretion towards any education expenses associated with their currently enrolled post-secondary educational program or institution (including universities, community colleges, or vocational schools) that is intended to grant a degree or diploma. No cash alternative or prize substitution will be allowed.

Taxes (INCLUDING ANY INCOME TAXES) are the sole responsibility of the winner regardless of whether scholarship is used in whole or in part.

Proceed through the Application. Answer all questions according to current time. All questions with * must be completed to submit this application.

Essay Submission:

Applicants (you) must submit an essay of 700-1500 words, describing how you have brought awareness to preventing driving under the influence by honoring a loved one or because of your own unique experience, how you have succeeded to garner donations and, or, have brought awareness to your specified cause. Creativity within your essay submission is highly encouraged.

Submissions should include details of your involvement as they relate to the specific awareness cause. For example: Why this cause and how did it affect you? How did you help raise awareness, raise funds, show support, lead a group, or contribute time? 

Letter of Recommendation #1 Submission:

One letter of recommendation from a person in your community who is familiar with your accomplishments. We may contact this person if we have questions. Please attach their letter of recommendation.  Their recommendation should include Name, Address, Phone Number, Relationship and Email Address.

Letter of Recommendation #2 Submission:

One letter of recommendation of support from a teacher, coach, counselor, or other academic professional. The letter should indicate the academic institution where the reference person is from.

Transcript Submission: 

A copy of your transcript is required. Unofficial transcripts are permitted, but unofficial “grade reports” are not an acceptable alternative.
